Hamilton & Inches has been appraising and valuing jewellery and watches in Edinburgh for over 150 years. Our in-house Jewellery Valuer, Leonie Armin (FGA DGA), is amongst the best in the industry.

Reasons for valuations differ, as do the results. You might need to know the value of your treasures for insurance or for probate purposes. Valuations can be provided at various different levels, including retail replacement and open market.

Valuations involve stone tests, metal tests and the analysis of stones and metal.Extensive research is undertaken to produce detailed schedules and item descriptions. It is helpful to provide your own previous valuations, gemstone certificates and original invoices for cross-referencing.

Timescales for valuations range from days to weeks and depend upon the nature and quantity of the items to be valued. We will give you an indication of delivery dates and fees before commencing work on your behalf.

We advise that you have your jewellery valued every three years however, the jewellery market is fast-moving with regular significant changes to item value. With that in mind, we recommend regular valuations to ensure your insurance cover is accurate. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any queries you may have, as our in-house Valuer is on hand to help.
