René Lalique - An Icon of Art Nouveau
With an extensive education in design and drawing, Lalique began his career working with notable French jewellers, including Cartier and Boucheron. Then, in 1885, he opened his first business where he was free to create his own designs.
He went on to become one of the greatest French artisans and, when he died in 1945, left an empire behind him. He was buried in the Père Lachaise Cemetery in Paris with a frosted glass cross as the centrepiece of his tomb.
