As Patek Philippe continues to explore bold new interpretations of their established collections, the Aquanaut is the latest model to undergo remarkable transformation. With over 20 years as a highly prized modern, sporty timepiece, the range is complemented with a series of striking new colours and the addition of a new travel watch for ladies, the Aquanaut Luce Travel Time.
The Aquanaut has been heralded a fan favourite since it was introduced to the Patek Philippe family in 1997. Following on from the mass success of the Nautilus, the range of watches embodied a modern and unexpected design, reaffirming Patek Philippe’s ability to innovate. Rightly so, the collection created a sensation, becoming a cult model. The striking case, with round octagonal bezel (inspired beautifully by the Nautilus) is complemented with the instantly recognisable checkerboard pattern on the strap resulting in a wholly original design. Crafted from highly technical water-resistant composite material, the result is a watch strap that is incredibly comfortable to wear and touch, resistant to wear, saltwater and ultraviolet radiation. A timepiece designed to accompany the most active of lifestyles.
Following on from a period of exciting development, Patek Philippe have introduced a white-gold version of the Aquanaut Chronograph. The watches are available with a colour scheme of midnight blue (Ref.5968G-001) or khaki green (Ref. 5968G-010). The introduction of the two new colours ensures a broad spectrum of design iterations; for those that prefer a more classic look in steel, rose gold or white gold to the more audacious khaki green version.
To complement the collection’s dynamic sporting spirit, the watch is powered by the Calibre CH 28-520 C self-winding mechanical movement. Featuring a flyback chronograph with 60-minute counter and date aperture, a power reserve of 45 – 55 hours and water-resistant to up to 120m, the timepiece embodies complications designed to accompany the everyday adventurer.
The focus on practical brilliance does not limit its aesthetic beauty, however. The soft satin brushed and polished surfaces on the 42.2mm case, bezel and pushers illuminate the timepiece’s octagonal shape perfectly. Elongated pushers further enhance the unique profile of the watch, presented on the immediately identifiable strap.
As consumer style continues to evolve, the lines between masculine and feminine blur and more and more customers are looking for a bold interpretation of a cult watch. As such, Patek Philippe present the Aquanaut Luce, which translates to light in Italian, in quartz and automatic variations. With a larger diameter of 38.8mm, including a beautiful frame of 48 bezel-set brilliant- cut diamonds, the timepiece is now available in a range of exciting dial and strap options.
As practical as they are beautiful, each dial is designed to be instantly legible and blend sporty refinement. White-gold applied Arabic numerals and large white-gold baton-style hands are presented on an iconic Aquanaut motif dial and inversed to black on white dial models. Framed by a steel case with polished finish on flat surfaces and satin-brushed on the flanks, each timepiece is finished with the same meticulous care as is applied to every mechanical movement.
Mirroring the design evolution of the Ref. 5968G, the Aquanaut Luce Quartz in steel now boasts variations in eternally elegant black (Ref. 5267/200A-001), a feminine matt white (Ref. 5267/200A-010) and sublime khaki green (Ref. 5267/200A-011). The green is a nod to the original model created in 2004, “Adventurous Khaki”, a slightly different shade, which created a stir with its beautiful blend of steel, diamonds and soft green.
For lovers of bold style, the collection sees the arrival of an automatic rose gold Aquanaut Luce featuring white dial and strap (Ref. 5268/200R-001). The crisp, white composite strap highlights the exceptional rose gold dial, framed with 48 brilliant-cut diamonds. Powered by calibre 26-330 S C, the watch is packed with technical innovations and optimisations, for which two are patented. The beauty of the movement can be witnessed via a sapphire-crystal back, highlighting the true beauty of the timepiece – both aesthetically and mechanically.
Finally, 2021 heralds the arrival of the quartz Aquanaut Luce Travel Time (Ref. 5269/200R). Designed to be practically elegant, perfect for a woman on the move, the timepiece is reliable, accurate and dynamic, presented in a casual-chic, elegant way. As the perfect companion for today’s cosmopolitan lady, previous models lacked the display of a second time zone. The Ref. 5269/200R harnesses the power of Patek Philippe’s ingenious Travel Time dual-zone mechanism, operated via a discreet, practical setting system via the winding crown.
Incredibly, when the owner is in their home country, or doesn’t need to see a second time zone, the two hour-markers become beautifully aligned to a single hand using the winding crown. In this way, the watch becomes a perfect accompaniment no matter where you are.
Patek Philippe continue to impress with their latest bold interpretations and new releases. As a manufacturer committed to pushing the boundaries of aesthetic and mechanical excellence, we are excited to see how the brand will continue to impress.
