As we were hanging the Christmas decorations around our showroom, and fitting our new Christmas window displays there was a buzz of excitement as we knew that next year, it would all be very different.
For the Hamilton & Inches team, Christmas will be here all over again in February 2021 as we step into our incredible new showroom.
87 George Street has been our home since 1952 and the five floors of the 19th Century building has buzzed with activity since. Formerly a family home, then BBC offices, the building’s history was already rich, and now, after being in residence for 68 years, Hamilton & Inches can proudly claim to have added to the wealth of stories the building walls have witnessed.
It has been home to some of the United Kingdom’s most skilled craftsmen and women, who have been making exceptional silverware and jewellery with the company over 125 years of our 154 year history. Our Royal Warrant is a mark of the commitment that our master craftsmen have had to their own art, and the passing down of skills to the next generations. The young apprentices and trainees have learned from masters who have learned from masters before them.
Our showroom has also seen many beautiful events, attended by our wonderful clients and friends. We have also welcomed Her Majesty The Queen for a visit, a celebration of our 150th anniversary in 2016.
However, the time has come for a renewal and we are proud to be announcing this investment into our future. The plans, unveiled this week, are for an extensive, design-led regeneration of the Grade A listed George Street home that will enhance every department within the building.
There will be a transformation from the top of our building, home to our jewellers, engravers and silversmiths, all the way down to our basement, where our service and valuations department reside and now our new state of the art watch workshop.
The reimagined showroom has been created by award winning design practice Waldo Works. It will feature uninterrupted display areas curated to suit all of our stunning contemporary collections. We are also delighted to announce that we will be upgrading our Rolex and Patek Philippepresence, reinvigoration our strong relationship with our premier partners.
Victoria Houghton, our CEO said:
“Hamilton & Inches has stood the test of time, with 154 years of passion, artistry and dedication to craftsmanship. Now, as a dynamic, independent business we are investing in our future, ensuring we preserve our heritage while also showcasing our broad, contemporary offering, from handcrafted pieces made in our onsite workshop, to leading global brands such as Rolex and Patek Philippe.
“This investment marks an exciting new chapter for Hamilton & Inches. The showroom restoration will allow us to continue to provide unrivalled service in a spectacular setting, while upgraded workshop facilities will ensure the traditional skills of our craftsmen continue to flourish for the next 154 years, and beyond.”
Renovations are now underway, however, we are still open for all of your Christmas shopping. On the 28th December, we will close our showroom doors to begin the final stages of the renovation.
Please be assured, we will remain open for business throughout this period. You can continue to shop online and take advantage of free, next-day delivery on all UK orders. We will also be taking appointments for all services or purchase needs via a video call and in person at our dedicated offices.
All you need to do is make an appointment with us by either calling the showroom or through our website here.
We are all excited for the future of our company and wish to take this opportunity to thank all of our customers and friends for their ongoing support.
