The symbolic Ginkgo was chosen as the inspiration behind the latest art installation at 87 George Street, taking pride of place in our sympathetically reimagined showroom. Symbolising beauty, longevity and profound endurance, the protected tree native to Asia and with fan-like leaves, was chosen to represent our 155-year long history, standing strong after two world wars, the Great Depression and, most recently, COVID-19.
The Ginkgo tree is one of the oldest on earth, a species with no living relatives and known for its healing properties. Its endurance saw 177 of the historic trees left standing after the events of 1945 in Hiroshima, their uniquely beautiful leaves a symbol of hope for natives.
Our light installation, designed by trainee silversmith Ruth Page, is a focal point in our new showroom, showcasing the talent of our expert artisans in all its glory, with a little help from the wider team. Each individual leaf has had input from a member of staff and transformed into a work of art via different disciplines all housed within Hamilton & Inches; hand engraving, piercing, chasing and hammering. Within the collection of shimmering sculptures, are two rather special leaves, both chosen to commemorate important parts of our business.
A piece of the breath-taking art installation is also available to be owned with the introduction of an exciting, limited-edition silver and 18ct yellow gold jewellery collection, Ginkgo.
The range includes hoop and stud earrings with matching pendant, each delicate thread of the fanned leaf hand-crafted by a member of the award-winning Hamilton & Inches team. Prices start from £75.00 and offers you a chance to own a little piece of our story.
