Hamilton & Inches joined in Edinburgh’s seasonal celebrations during the month of August by hosting a series of free public workshops with its Master Craftsmen.
The six sessions were designed to portray traditional craft in a new light and give individuals the opportunity to learn about and try their hand at engraving, piercing and creating jewellery.
Silversmith David Ramsay led the first workshop on Tuesday 4 August 2015, helping people to create our traditional planished finish.
David began his career at Hamilton & Inches in 2007 as the workshop’s first modern day apprentice, and has since created a number of notable silver pieces including replica Scottish Open Championship Quaichs (awarded to the competition’s winners).
Five further days of demonstrations took place throughout August, where our master silversmiths, engravers and jewellers showcased their crafts alongside our apprentice – a master in the making.
Our craftsmen create pieces using time-honoured techniques from the workshops above our Edinburgh showroom, and work to ensure that the artistry of silversmithing flourishes for future generations.
