The H&I Story Begins
In 1866, Hamilton & Inches is founded by James Hamilton (who for more than 20 years had served as principle assistant of the old established firm of Mackay Cunningham and Co) with his nephew Robert Kirk Inches (26) who had served his apprenticeship as a jeweller and watchmaker in London and Edinburgh.

Hamilton & Inches register their hallmark with the Edinburgh assay office (1/6/1866, Book of Registrations Vol 1, 1847-1902, 1 punch registered.)
