Where better to discover the 2021 Rolex collection for yourself than at an open exhibition at Hamilton & Inches jewellery showroom in Edinburgh, writes Annabelle Love.
Rolex is recognised the world over for its unrivalled reputation for quality, expertise and innovation–and the latest releases for 2021 are no exception. Each one of these new watches embodies the excellence, elegance and prestige for which these luxury timepieces are renowned and invites you on an adventure – be it geographical, technical or aesthetic.
The history of this iconic brand is inextricably linked to the history of exploration, human endurance and the spirit of enterprise. Rolex watches have been worn by men and women attempting some of the toughest challenges of the 20th century – scaling the Himalayan peaks, crossing the polar icecaps and probing the depths of the ocean.
Each of these expeditions was an opportunity for Rolex to test and improve the reliability and strength of its watches, using the world as a living laboratory. The original Explorer was launched in 1953, following the success of Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay’s first ascent to the summit of Mount Everest, and the new generation Explorer and Explorer II timepieces, released in April this year, embody the brand’s perpetual drive to improve these elegant watches.
Similarly, the new dial designs showcase the imagination and incredible craftsmanship of the arti-sans who make them. Clients will be able to view these watches at the exhibition at Hamilton & Inches’ showroom, in Edinburgh. The collection will be presented from Monday, November 1, to Sunday, November 7, in the newly refurbished Rolex Room – and experts will be on hand to guide customers through all of the exquisite timepieces.
“The 2021 exhibition is very special because it gives all of our clients the chance to see these incredible watches,” says Victoria Houghton, chief executive officer of Hamilton & Inches. “It is very exciting to be able to display the Rolex 2021 collection within our showroom. Clients can view the watches and talk through the design details with our dedicated, highly experienced team. It is a unique opportunity and a really lovely experience.”
Choosing a Rolex is, of course, a very personal decision and often an emotional one. Whatever the reason, there can be few better places to view these watches than the Rolex Room at Hamilton & Inches, which is set in a beautiful Georgian building in the heart of Edinburgh. This luxurious space, which reopened earlier this year, has been carefully designed around clients’ needs and offers a welcoming environment in which to relax and spend time. It also includes two VIP consultation rooms, which provide a more intimate, private setting.
“The Rolex Room is somewhere that people want to visit for a coffee, or a glass of Champagne; it is so much more than simply a retail experience,” says Houghton. “The 2021 exhibition is part of that too. It allows us to showcase these new watches for our clients and to share the pieces with them.”
The fact that Rolex watches are often passed down through the generations, and are built to last, makes it especially important to have a trusted place to take them to for servicing or repairs.
Hamilton & Inches has this aspect covered too with a new, state-of-the art, Rolex-accredited workshop on site – staffed by accredited watchmakers.
“What makes us stand out from other jewellers is that we offer a seamless experience for customers,” says Houghton. “Not only can we help them decide on their treasured purchase, we can also help them maintain it.” Houghton loves many of the latest 2021 pieces - but her personal favourite is the new Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust 36 in Oystersteel and yellow gold, which features the golden fluted motif dial and a Jubilee bracelet.
“The fluted motif dial gives the Datejust a really new twist and at different angles it catches the light, just like the iconic fluted bezel.” she says.
